John Hotze's Trip Report
10-25-2002 - I arrived at the cabin about 9:30 Friday night to a temperature of about 52 degrees on the porch. Got a good fire going and one of the heaters. I kept pretty warm. I thought I was going to have company but it turned out I was alone for this one again. I saw where the old wood stove is getting replaced by a much better one. It sounds like a great idea. From the sketch I saw it appears to be a little bigger and lower to the floor. Since the note said it was going to get installed the last week of October, I take it that Dick and some his boys are going down this week to install it.
The main reason for this trip was to pick up some firewood for our apartment. My directions to the mill had an error by the way. It stated to go across the Piney and turn left at the stop sign. I observed that there is no stop sign but it is the first road that crosses the old route 66 after the Piney. The guy in the trailer gave me the same deal of all I could haul for $10. He felt that it wasn't quite worth $10 an told me the next time I need some wood to just load up and if any body asks to let them know that you already paid the man at the trailer.
My family is really looking forward to spending part of Christmas week at the cabin this year. It will be a somewhat of a family and friends reunion with daughters coming in from Portland, OR and Stillwater, OK and a friend from Colorado. I'm certain the new stove will get a workout if it gets up an going.
The fall colors were probably near their peak while I was down there this past weekend. If the sun would have come out I could have had a lot better pictures but I hope you enjoy what I did get. Paul Hotze didn't make it down this year for Turkey so I guess there will be at least one more for Dick in the spring.
